In return for the tuition and textbook fees indicated in Section 2 of
this contract, Mactech Distance Education agrees to provide the student
with the following services and materials for the specified program
duration;
- The use of an appropriate computer and software on loan to complete the specific performance objectives of the chosen program of studies;
- The textbooks chosen by Mactech for the purpose of course completion;
- Access to toll-free tutorial assistance for course consultation;
- Evaluation Services;
- Course outlines and a Student Manual;
- One-time, return shipping charges to the student’s primary place of residence;
- A Diploma, and;
- Technical Support Services.
Not included in the Tuition price
are computer or software purchases, printers, diskettes, Internet
connections, postage, or any other item not specifically mentioned
above.
GIPs are conditional based on successful course completion. Therefore,
it is assumed that both parties to this contract have fully discharged
their obligations under this contract prior to GIP implementation.
Accordingly, GIPs are not considered a part of the Mactech program under
the scope of this contract.
The student agrees that the objective in pursuing this Mactech Distance
Education program of study is to complete the course requirements as
described in the Course Outline and obtain the Completion Certification.
In keeping with this objective, the student agrees to submit assignments
in accordance with the Assignment Submission Schedule and courteously
cooperate with Mactech Staff.
The prerequisite for entrance into your chosen course of study is a high
school diploma endorsed by a provincial or territorial education
authority, an equivalent such as the General Education
Development (GED) designation, a passing grade on an acceptable
Standardized Test or Mature Student Status.

To graduate, students require an overall average of 70%, with no mark
below 65% in an individual subject. Honors status requires a minimal
course average of 90%, no subject average below 85%, and no failed
assignments.
HomeED courses have a definite duration of 1080 hours/315 days/45 weeks
or; 1248, 1254, or 1220 hours/52 weeks/365 days. The Official Start Date
is the verified delivery date of the initial course materials. The
Official Finish date is defined as the date falling exactly 45 calendar
weeks/315 days or 52 calendar weeks/365 days, following the Official Start Date. MATRIX courses have a
definite duration of 1404 or 1300 hours/ 365 days/52 weeks. The Official
Start Date is the verified delivery date of the initial course
materials. The Official Finish Date is defined as the date falling
exactly 52 calendar weeks or 365 days following the Official Start Date.
For refund purposes under the Nova Scotia Tuition Refund Policy, the course length is measured in
days and the first installment covers the initial 90 days of the
program.
The Director of Student Services may dismiss students for any behavior
deemed inappropriate. Specific regulations regarding behavior are
contained in the Mactech Student Manual.
All Mactech students have withdrawal privileges during the defined
duration of their program. Students deciding to withdraw
during that period may be entitled to a partial refund as outlined in
the Official Government Regulations known as the Tuition Refund Policy,
a copy of which the applicant has received and read. All refund
calculations will be based on the Official Start Date and the date the
Letter of Withdrawal is received by the school. In the event of a
withdrawal, the student must fully compensate the school for any
non-refundable, compulsory fees paid on behalf of the student by the
school.
Mactech programs have no formal instruction in the traditional sense.
The student is the instructor. Tutorial assistance and guidance is
provided to indicate where answers may be found in the textual material.

Applicants must disclose any and all pre-existing conditions, medical or
otherwise, that could affect the outcome of their program, prior to
admission. Only circumstances fully disclosed prior to admission will be
considered relevant to this contract. Once admitted, any changes in
circumstances will be viewed within the context of this contract.
The phrase “self-paced study” refers to the flexibility of study time
within the defined course duration. Students must submit assignments
regularly in accordance with the assignment submission
schedule.
This contract in no way constitutes an offer of sale for computer
equipment or software. Mactech loans appropriate computer equipment and
software to their students solely for the purpose of completing their
program of studies and, not withstanding arrangements made under a GIP,
the equipment must be returned within 7 days following course completion, withdrawal, or dismissal.
Charges will be applied for damaged equipment and/or software. A charge of $3500 will be applied for equipment
that is not returned.
Students may receive new or refurbished equipment. The only
representation made by Mactech regarding equipment is that the said
equipment will meet or exceed the requirements for completion of the
student’s program of studies.
Mactech will offer appropriate course extensions equivalent to time lost
because of equipment or software-related difficulties.
Mactech reserves the right to refuse, without explanation, any
Application for Admission.
The agreement shall at all times and all respects be governed and
construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia,
and the Courts of Nova Scotia shall have exclusive jurisdiction to
determine any disputes arising there from.
Not included in the tuition cost is a one-time, non-refundable student
fee of one hundred dollars, payable at the beginning of the program. In
return for the student association fees, students are granted access to
student associated activities, newsletters, student ID card and forums,
and access to post-graduate career services.
